About About

A month ago today, I ended my five-year run as the basketball guide at About.com.

Actually, that’s not 100% accurate. I started out as About’s guide to college hoops, but pro basketball was added to my portfolio when the awesome Dennis Velasco moved on to other projects.

I enjoyed my run at About very much. It’s a great gig, and I sincerely hope they’ll thrive under their new corporate overlords from InterActive Corp. My departure had nothing to do with any of that; it was just time for something new.

I’ll continue to be a contributor at Rotowire.com – my fantasy NBA waiver wire column runs there weekly and is occasionally picked up by Yahoo! Fantasy sports. And I’ll be posting original content right here at Lane Violation.

If you’re interested in keeping up with me or shooting me a question, I’m active on Twitter: @charliezegers. (I’m the guy with the “Patrick Ewing as the Angel of Death in Exorcist III” avatar.)

The plummeting value of the league’s television contract is a big factor. According to one report, the Big East is being offered about $60-80 million per year in current negotiations. Last year, they turned down an offer from ESPN that would have paid three times as much.
