Just days after the NBA celebrated the life and legacy of a civil rights leader comes the introduction of a new professional basketball league where no coloreds need apply.
I wish I was kidding.
The Augusta Journal is reporting that the “All-American Basketball Alliance” plans to begin play this June, and will feature “Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race…“
The new league’s commissioner, Don “Moose” Lewis, insists that the restriction is not racially motivated, then explained his reasoning using more racial stereotypes than can ordinarily fit into just one paragraph.
Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch? That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.
I feel dirty just cutting-and-pasting that sentence.
