Another Impressive Win for Syracuse

by Charlie on December 11, 2009

Anyone else starting to think that Syracuse’s preseason loss to LeMoyne was actually a ploy, designed to give the rest of Division I a false sense of security? Because based on what we’ve seen from the Orange since then, I’m having a hard time understanding how any Division II team could roll with Jim Boeheim’s team.

Their latest victims: the 11th-ranked Florida Gators. Syracuse beat Florida 85-73 — in Florida — in another excellent Big East/SEC Invitational matchup. Their record now stands at 9-0 on the year, with wins over Pac 10 favorite Cal, North Carolina and the Gators. Suddenly the team that couldn’t knock off the lower-division Jesuit school from across town is getting mentioned in the “number one team in the country” conversation.

No less an authority than Bob Knight is calling the ‘Cuse the best team he’s seen this year — and that was before last night’s big win.
