David Stern has spoken, and Gilbert Arenas is in limbo indefinitely. But the story of Arenas, Javaris Crittenton and their confrontation at the Verizon Center is far from over. Crittenton’s role in all this is still far from clear, but according to a report in The Washington Post, his reaction to the incident was far more serious than Arenas’ statements have led the public to believe.
According to two first-hand accounts of the confrontation, Crittenton responded to Arenas’s action — which included laying the four unloaded weapons in Crittenton’s cubicle with a note that read, “Pick One” — by brandishing his own firearm, loading the gun and chambering a round.
If that version of the story is accurate, it would seem Crittenton is in line for much harsher penalties than Arenas. And as NBA scribe Stephen A. Smith has suggested, if it comes out that Crittenton pulled his own gun — rather than simply throwing one of Arenas’ unloaded pistols to the floor as in previous reports — his NBA career is almost certainly over. That said, the gun Crittenton allegedly brandished has not been recovered as of yet.
