If this keeps up, a lot of people are going to owe Jay Bilas apologies.
Bilas, the ESPN/CBS NCAA basketball analyst, drew a lot of fire for picking Cornell to advance to the Elite Eight. The Big Red are two-thirds of the way there after knocking off five seed Wisconsin, 87-69. No Ivy League team has gotten this far since 1979. Remarkably, the game wasn’t even close. Cornell’s efficient offense shot over 60 percent from the field — 53 percent from long range — and led from wire to wire. Louis Dale led Cornell with 26 points and Ryan Wittman added 24.
For Bilas’ prediction to come true, though, the Big Red will have to get past Kentucky. But they’ll have one major advantage — their next game will be played at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, just an hour’s drive from Cornell’s Ithaca, New York campus.
