CAA, SoCon, MAAC and WCC Champs

It’s March, which means it’s time for you to brush up on conference championship alphabet soup… we’ll start with the four conference champions who were crowned on Monday, earning automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA Tournament:

Colonial Athletic Association: William & Mary would have been a great story — but they’ll maintain their status as a perennial outsider at the big dance for one more year. Old Dominion’s stingy defense propelled them to the CAA title.

Southern Conference: Tiny Wofford College (enrollment: 1,400) is going dancing for the first time in school history after winning the SoCon title from Appalachian State.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference: The MAAC will move their postseason tournament out of Albany starting next year — and with good reason. The Siena Saints never lose on their home court.

West Coast Conference: St. Mary’s just missed the field last season. This year, they won’t have to sweat Selection Sunday after winning the WCC’s automatic bid from Gonzaga.
