The Cavaliers finally got the floor-stretching big man they’ve coveted for the better part of a year, acquiring veteran power forward Antawn Jamison from the Wizards as part of a three-way trade that also included the Clippers.
The Cavs get Jamison from the Wizards and point guard Sebastian Telfair from the Clippers.
The Wizards get Zydrunas Ilgauskas, a first-round pick in 2010 and the draft rights to Emir Preldzic — the Cavs’ second-round pick in 2009 — from Cleveland and forward Al Thornton from the Clippers. Ilgauskas will almost certainly get a buyout, which will leave him free to sign elsewhere — perhaps even re-joining the Cavs after the league-mandated 30-day waiting period.
The Clippers get Drew Gooden — a player Washington acquired earlier in the week as part of the Caron Butler trade — and cap relief. Los Angeles is now set to go into the summer with very solid players at four positions — point guard Baron Davis, shooting guard Eric Gordon, power forward Blake Griffin and center Chris Kaman — and enough money to make a run at a marquee free agent.
(I wonder if they have anyone special in mind for that small forward spot.)
