In a game that evoked memories of the Celtics’ 2008 Finals performance, Boston used stifling defense and efficient offense to beat the Lakers, 92-86, to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.
The Celtics shot a staggering 66 percent from the field in the first half and 56 percent for the game. Four of Boston’s starters scored in double-figures, led once again by Paul Pierce (27 points). Kobe Bryant kept the Lakers close single-handedly, scoring a game-high 38 points, but got little help from his teammates. Pau Gasol (12 points) was the only other Laker in double figures.
Center Andrew Bynum managed to play 31 minutes on his balky knee, but was clearly limited. Bynum scored just six points and grabbed just one rebound.
The series resumes in Los Angeles on Tuesday night (9pm ET, ABC).
