Connecticut Women Dominate Polls

by Charlie on January 25, 2010

We’ve had three different number one teams in last four men’s top 25 polls.

  • Kansas was tops until they ran into the shorthanded Tennessee Volunteers.
  • Texas took over, but week two of their reign included consecutive losses to K-State and UConn.
  • Kentucky – the last undefeated team in Division I – took over the top spot today.

The women’s side is much easier to follow. Today’s poll marks the 36th consecutive week at number one  for the Connecticut women — tying a record held by Louisiana Tech between 1980 and 1982.

The Huskies have been the top team in women’s hoops since last season’s preseason poll. They’re also in the midst of a 56-game winning streak — the second-longest in school and NCAA history. (Connnecticut won a record 70 straight spanning the 2001-2003 seasons.)
