Philadelphia 76ers center Samuel Dalembert will present a check for $100,000 to Haiti Earthquake Relief at this Friday’s game, and has pledged to match any contributions made by fans.

If you’d like to make a contribution to this very worthy cause, visit the Samuel Dalembert Foundation website for details.

Dalembert is a native of Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, very close to the epicenter of Tuesday’s massive earthquake. His family moved to Canada when he was a teenager, and then to New Jersey where he played basketball for St. Patrick’s High School and Seton Hall University. He left school after his sophomore season and was drafted by the Sixers with the 21st overall pick in 2001, becoming just the second Haitian player in NBA history.

Several other athletes of Haitian descent play professionally in the United States, including Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon and boxer Andre Berto.
