Note to President Obama:
On behalf of Kentucky basketball fans everywhere, I’d like to thank you for your kind words to Coach Calipari and the players, honoring their work on the Hoops for Haiti telethon. But the next time you feel compelled to thank the Wildcats, perhaps you’ll consider sending a nice note on presidential stationery.
You see, sir… basketball fans are superstitious. And while we know you meant well when you told the team, “There is that tendency once you get to number one to let down a little bit…” But the thing is, sir… they DID let down a little bit. Just hours after your phone call, they lost to lightly-regarded South Carolina.
I know you’re a man of science. You probably don’t believe in this sort of thing… but sir, what you did… well, it’s right up there with talking to a pitcher while he’s working on a no-hitter. It just isn’t done.
In the future… let’s limit your contact with sports teams to the traditional post-championship White House photo op. Otherwise, all those Wildcat fans might turn their Kentucky blue to red during the next election.
