There are lots of reasons for LeBron James to consider signing with the Knicks. Great city. Outstanding home court – which will only get better. A coach he admires. An offensive system he enjoys. A massive media market that offers off-court opportunities no other city can match, and a devoted fan base desperate to support a winner.
You don’t ordinarily see “the Knicks are your best chance to contend for a title” on that list; the conventional wisdom seems to be that the Bulls (with Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah) or Nets (Brook Lopez, Devin Harris and a top pick in this year’s draft) have better rosters at the moment. But Kevin Pelton of Basketball Prospectus made that very argument this week – and based his argument on the numbers.
