Dunk Contest Participants Revealed

by Charlie on January 18, 2010

The field is set for the 2010 Slam Dunk Contest. Nate Robinson will look to defend his title — and win a record third dunk contest — against Charlotte forward Gerald Wallace, and Laker swingman Shannon Brown. The fourth participant will be decided by a dunk-off between Toronto rookie DeMar DeRozan and Clipper guard Eric Gordon, which will be held on Friday of all-star weekend. (My money’s on DeRozan.)

Robinson won the dunk contest in 2006 and again last year, when he memorably unveiled his “Krypto-Nate” persona and jumped over Dwight Howard. If he wins, he’ll become the first repeat dunk champion since Jason Richardson in 2002 and 2003 — and only the third to win back-to-back titles. Michael Jordan won in 1987 and 1988.

Dominique Wilkins (1985, 1990) and Harold Miner (1993, 1995) are the only other two-time dunk champions.
