Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant wants to play for Team USA. It sounds like he’ll get his wish; New York Times scribe Jonathan Abrams says USA basketball head Jerry Colangelo is calling Durant “a lock” for the next Olympic team.
Durant is a likely candidate to join Team USA well before that, when Mike Krzyzewski brings the senior national team to the World Championships in Istanbul. That team is expected to be made up primarily of the players who won gold in Beijing in 2008 — of that group, only Jason Kidd has said he’ll skip the tournament. But several other roster spots could open up, and Colangelo is expected to add some fresh faces to the mix.
Here’s my guess as to what Team USA’s 2010 World Championship Roster might look like.
