First Impressions on Melo’s Debut

by Charlie on February 24, 2011

Carmelo Anthony looked gassed. And rightfully so – after spending all-star weekend dealing with NBAPA labor negotiations, a constant media feeding frenzy, the uncertainty of last-minute trade talks, and then a hastily-arranged cross-country move – he was probably in dire need of about 14 hours of sleep.

He also looked tentative. Again, rightfully so – just hours before tip-off, he and his new teammates were on the floor with Mike D’Antoni’s coaching staff, running the a sort of “here’s how this play works” walk-through that wouldn’t have been out of place on the first day of training camp.

But most importantly, he looked like a star.

His jumper lacked lift, and he didn’t know where his teammates would be most of the time. But Anthony managed to score a game-high 27 points, grab ten rebounds and lead his team to a 114-108 win over Milwaukee in his Knick debut.
