One of the more entertaining rumors to surface of late has the Knicks making a play for Spurs guard Tony Parker this summer.
Parker isn’t a free agent; his contract runs through the 2010-11 season, so acquiring Parker could only happen via trade. And while the Knicks don’t have many assets to include in such a deal, it’s possible Donnie Walsh could propose some sort of sign-and-trade arrangement that would land David Lee with the Spurs in exchange for Parker. The Knicks could potentially “sweeten the pot” by taking on the last year of Richard Jefferson’s contract, or get a third team involved to help the Spurs land another young talent – Memphis’ wingman Rudy Gay, for example.
Possible? Sure. NBA trades are endlessly complicated when teams are over the cap; with cap room, things are a lot simpler.
Likely? That’s another story.
