Danilo Gallinari’s knee injury – the severity of which is still unknown – necessitates a temporary lineup change. But the Knicks’ starting five could get a facelift even after Gallo is ready to play.
Gallinari is considered “doubtful” for Tuesday’s game against the Spurs. Assuming he can’t go – which seems the safe assumption at this point – Mike D’Antoni will move Ronny Turiaf back to the starting lineup, shift Amar’e Stoudemire to his more natural power forward position and Wilson Chandler to Gallinari’s small forward spot.
For tomorrow night’s game, that change has an additional benefit, allowing the Knicks to open the game with Turiaf guarding Tim Duncan. That could help Stoudemire avoid early foul trouble.
