Nuggets coach George Karl has been diagnosed with cancer of the head and neck, and will leave the team periodically to undergo treatment.
Assistant coach Adrian Dantley will fill in when Karl is unavailable.
The condition is being decribed as “treatable” — but Karl knows nothing is guaranteed. As he told reporters at yesterday’s press conference:
Cancer is a vicious opponent. Even the ones that are treatable, you never get a 100-percent guaranteed contract.
He speaks from experience. Karl battled prostate cancer in 2005, and son Coby was treated for thyroid cancer the following year.
Get well soon, coach.
