John Calipari’s Hoops for Haiti telethon raised over $500,000 in donations on Sunday, and with a group of Lexington businessmen set to make a matching contribution, the final tally will easily top one million dollars in much-needed aid for Haitian earthquake relief efforts.
Among the contributors: Syracuse’ Jim Boeheim, Texas’ Rick Barnes, and Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. In a particularly classy move, Minnesota’s Tubby Smith — one of Calipari’s predecessors at Kentucky — donated $1000.
Nice work, coach.
