Johnson Leads Orange Into Sweet Sixteen

Scary thought for the rest of the Sweet Sixteen: Syracuse is dominating, even without injured forward Arinze Onuaku.

Onuaku — who injured his right quad during the Big East Tournament — is one of the keys to Jim Boeheim’s impenetrable 2-3 zone. Without him, many expected Syracuse to be tested by a top team like Gonzaga.

Test passed.

Wes Johnson scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 14 boards as the Orange rolled into the Sweet Sixteen with a dominant 87-65 win. Andy Rautins added 24 points and Brandon Triche had 13. Meanwhile, that zone gave the Zags fits; Gonzaga hit just three of 21 attempts from long range, and leading scorer Matt Bouldin converted three of 13 from the floor.
