The Knicks tipped off the toughest stretch of their schedule to date – “Dream Week” — with a 129-125 win over the Denver Nuggets at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon, thanks to another big game from Amar’e Stoudemire. Stoudemire scored a team-high 30, his eighth consecutive game with 30 or more and set a new franchise record for consecutive games with 30 or more.
The Knicks have won all eight games of Stoudemire’s streak and will take their longest winning streak in 16 years into Wednesday’s showdown with the Boston Celtics at MSG. After Boston, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade arrive for a game on Friday.
Stoudemire scored 24 of his 30 points in the second half – when some would argue he was lucky to be playing at all. STAT was called for a technical foul early in the game after getting tangled with physical Denver center Nene. Stoudemire probably could have been called for a second technical in the second quarter – Denver’s bench certainly thought he was deserving – which would have meant an automatic ejection for the Knicks’ leading scorer.
