LeBron Accepts Trophy, Raises Questions

LeBron James accepted his second straight MVP award on Sunday, in front of an adoring crowd in his home town of Akron, Ohio. And as usual, his remarks are being analyzed to death by NBA writers and fans desperate for a hint as to his plans for this summer.

The fact that LBJ staged the ceremony in Akron is being interpreted as a nod to his roots. But LBJ refused to tip his hand, saying, “Akron, Ohio, is my life and I love this city. No matter where my life takes me, I’m always from here.” After stressing his roots that heavily, he can’t possibly be planning on leaving the Cavs this summer.

Or can he?

The optimistic Knick fans in the audience — LeBroptimists, as they’ve been dubbed by the Wall Street Journal — are reading “no matter where my life takes me” as “when I’m playing in Madison Square Garden.” And they may have a point; though LeBron’s speech was heavy on the Akron references, he didn’t mention Cleveland at all.
