The Nets want out of the Izod Center so badly, they’re going to move to Newark before they move to Brooklyn.
The Nets have reached a preliminary lease agreement with their old Meadowlands roommates, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, that will have both teams co-habitating at the Prudential Center starting next season, the New York Daily News reports. The only hold-up is approval from New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who must sign off on the deal.
A similar deal was struck in the waning days of Jon Corzine’s tenure as governor, but fell through when Christie unseated the incumbent last November.
The team is still expected to move to a new facility in Brooklyn some time in 2012.
