Athletes aren’t usually big on political statements — but for game two of the Phoenix/San Antonio series, the Suns are making an exception. For tonight’s game — to be played on Cinco de Mayo — Steve Nash and company will wear their “Los Suns” alternate uniforms to make a statement of solidarity with Arizona’s Latino community and in protest of Arizona’s controversial new immigration law.
The idea came directly from the owners’ box, and the Suns were unanimous in their support. The Spurs hoped to join in by wearing their “Noche Latina” alternate uniforms as well, but weren’t able to get things together in time.
Personally, I’m just wondering why the jerseys say “Los Suns” and not “Los Soles.”
