That’s Why They Call Him the Zen Master

According to Laker coach Phil Jackson, the Clippers aren’t cursed. But owner Donald Sterling might want to work on his karma a bit.

Asked if he believed in a Clipper curse, Jackson told reporters, “I’m of that generation that believes in karma. I do think there is karma in effect, ultimately.” He went on to question whether or not Donald Sterling has done enough mitzvahs — a Jewish term that essentially means “good deed” in this context — to balance his karmic balance sheet.

I can’t really speak to Sterling’s good deeds — but it seems fair to suggest he’d need to perform quite a few to balance out his shadier actions. Two months ago, he paid $2.7 million to settle a lawsuit that claimed his company discriminated against minority families attempting to rent apartments in his buildings. It wasn’t the first time such claims have been made against Sterling’s company.

Sterling’s questionable business practices… and the rank ineptitude of his teams… push him to a number one ranking on my list of the NBA’s worst owners.

Warranted as the criticism may be, you don’t usually hear NBA coaches calling out the owners of other NBA teams… but when you’ve got as many championship rings as Phil Jackson, you get some leeway.

Worst Owners in the NBA
