Top-Ranked Texas Falls to K-State

by Charlie on January 21, 2010

With Kansas and Texas sitting atop the rankings for much of this season, most observers considered the Big 12 a tw0-team race.

Make that three.

Kansas State knocked the Longhorns from the ranks of the unbeaten on Monday night, with a gritty 71-62 win. K-State’s smothering defense held Texas to just .368 shooting from the field — and 3-of-11 from three — and Jamar Samuels led the Wildcats with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The loss effectively ends Texas’ run atop the polls at two weeks. Kentucky is the last unbeaten remaining in Division I. Barring an upset loss to Arkansas on Saturday, John Calipari’s Wildcats will move into the top spot when the rankings are released on Monday.
