Celtic assistant coach Tom Thibodeau will take over the vacant head coaching position in Chicago, and there are reports suggesting LeBron James will join him there.
Generally credited as the architect of the Celtics’ championship-caliber defense, Thibodeau reportedly turned down an offer to coach the New Orleans Hornets because Chicago was the job he really wanted. Thibodeau and James are both represented by agent Leon Rose, giving rise to speculation that they’re a package deal.
Of course, there are several other coaches who can claim connections to James and who may play a role in determining where he lands this summer. Danny Ferry’s departure from Cleveland has jump-started the John Calipari rumor mill once again; Ferry was reportedly against hiring Coach Cal. James is also reportedly a fan of Mike D’Antoni, dating back to when the Knick coach ran the offense for Team USA in Beijing.
